NXG Drilling Services appoints non-executive chairman

NXG Drilling Services has announced the appointment of a former Weatherford UK managing director to its senior management team.

With nearly 40 years’ oil and gas industry expertise, Ian McCartney has been announced as non-executive chairman. He will play a key strategic role in supporting NXG’s plans for international growth in the manufacture and supply of products and services to the drilling sector.

NXG has invested more than £2m in new offices at Altens, Aberdeen, and a manufacturing facility near Peterhead. The company also has an operation in the Middle East.

Rod Coffey, managing director at NXG Drilling Services, said: “Ian is a highly respected oil and gas industry executive and I am delighted he has chosen to join NXG as non-executive chairman. His knowledge will be invaluable as we seek to move forward with our plans for developing the business internationally.”

Ian said: “NXG is an ambitious business with big plans for growth. A key part of my role will be focused on engaging with potential clients to demonstrate how NXG can add value to projects, as well as applying my own experience to support the development of staff and the company as a whole.

“In addition, I will be actively involved in building strategic partnerships with other businesses in the same arena as we look to take NXG to the next level.”

Ian is a former vice-chairman of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), North Sea Chapter and was Weatherford managing director for UK, Netherlands and Denmark for eight years before becoming UK chairman for 18 months. He held a variety of roles during a 38-year career at Weatherford including offshore service technician, operations manager, regional product line manager and general manager. As UK managing director he led a workforce of more than 1,000.

NXG Drilling Services supplies a range of bottom-hole assembly (BHA) equipment including stabilisers, subs, drill collars, hole openers and reamers. In addition, the business also has a large stock of non-magnetic tools.

The company has streamlined costs by partnering with in-country oil service firms, and introduced smarter logistics as well as innovative sales and rental models to respond to cost-conscious requirements in the drilling phase of exploration and production programmes.

NXG clients also have the option of adding cost-effective products from its technology arm, which can deliver a range of solutions for drilling operations.
